What is your favorite vacation spot?

My favorite vacation spot is a difficult question to answer. I have been fortunate to travel to many places, from Germany to Japan, Canada to Belize, Airstreamed cross country in the beautiful United States, and called the Aloha State home for six years. I love to immerse myself in different cultures, meet new people, eat new foods, explore new terrain, and live mindfully with curiosity. Hawaii remains one of those places I thoroughly enjoy as a favorite vacation spot. Each island is unique, and they all share a rich Polynesian culture. I feel a deep connection there. The land’s beauty, vibrant with floral exotics, abundant waterfalls, and crystal blues of the ocean, makes mountain hiking, sailing, beach combing, and surfing an indulgence for the senses. Island life is simpler, and the pace is much different from that on the mainland of the U.S.

What is a good way to give back to your community?

There are so many ways to give back to your community. We can respond to an unmet need in a neighborly fashion or support others through our gifts, talents, or skills. I have supported my community by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, helping with home construction. It is wonderful to be part of a group effort to better the lives of others. I also give back to the community by sharing my expertise and providing seminars and workshops on topics people can benefit from, such as gut health, stress management, and sleep hygiene practices. Increasing awareness around these topics enables people to discover practical approaches to these widespread health problems.

Would you rather live 100 years in the past or 100 years in the future?

Given the opportunity to live either 100 years in the past or 100 years in the future, I would choose to live 100 years in the future. Motivated by health and well-being, I would like to know what potential advancements in science and technology would increase life expectancy, health span, and quality of life. I would be curious about how society would have changed/progressed and how issues we face, such as climate change, scarcity of resources, or sustainability, would have advanced. As an optimist, I would be excited to be part of what will emerge as new and fresh in the future.
